Job Description

Managerial Responsibilities

(i) Review and develop new and cost-effective transportation strategies for the transport services unit to achieve its budget targets which in turn feed into the procurement and Logistics department’s budget.

(ii) Monitor the transport services unit records concerning routine maintenance and fuel expenditures in accordance to the directorate’s policies and procedures

(iii) Appraise the staff in the department line with the schemes of service to ensure optimal performance

Operational Responsibilities

(i) Liaise with Human Resource department to co-ordinate staff training for drivers on the latest transport and traffic regulations to ensure they are well equipped

(ii) Renew unit staff records on licensing for the drivers in accordance to the transport and traffic regulations to ensure compliance

(iii) Supervise the routine maintenance and allocation and reallocation of vehicles and drivers to ensure proper usage of commission’s property

(iv) Facilitate replacement and repair of spare parts and equipment of the vehicles by being the initiator of requests on the IFMIS system

(v) Issues fuel to ensure proper utilization of funds

(vi) Report on Monthly returns on fuel and maintenance to maintain compliance of standards

(vii) Supervise cleanliness, housekeeping and maintenance of physical assets for functionality

(viii) Ensure safe working conditions to minimize hazards and meet statutory obligations

(ix) Ensure dispatch of mail for smooth flow of information

(x) Maintain security procedures to ensure safety of staff and assets

Qualifications Knowledge and Skills:

(i) Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized a recognized institution

(ii) Administrative officers induction course

(iii) Computer literacy

(iv) Knowledge of government transport policy.

(v) Knowledge of budgeting

(vi) Communication skills

(vii) Interpersonal skills

(viii) Organizational skills

(ix) Ability to work under pressure

(x) Ability to work well with teams

(xi) Problem solving skills

(xii) Supervisory skills

(xiii) Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya

(xiv) Six(6) years of service three(3) of which should be in a comparable position from a reputable organization
